May re-check in progress – so far, it looks promising.

Happy May! Buddy is wearing a fancy and tiny Abbott Freestyle Libre 3 since yesterday evening, and so far, so good. I am excited to see blood glucose sensors shrink, finally. The FL3 fits between his shoulder blades, with room to spare – good job, Abbott!

This early morning, the usual “food anxiety chirping” coincided with his, also usual, increase in blood sugar readings, and, after getting a small snack, BG dropped. Similar picture two hours later, when he was fed his breakfast.

… We had attempted to ignore his “dawn phenomenon of demanding food” for several months, but when I noticed the hyperglycemia that it caused and considered the potential consequences of further beta-cell damage, I decided to give in and feed him a snack when he wakes up and demands food, along with attempting to feed him a late dinner (around midnight). His whining at around first light is also stressful for us – probably with similar effects on our health …

Anyways, here’s a photo of the first 12 hours of sensor data. Remember that the sensor is probably reading lower than the actual blood glucose (because he’s a cat, and the sensor is calibrated for humans), and, that the sensor is still settling in. Anyways, the trend is promising and giving me hope that Mr. Buddy is still in remission. One day at a time :-).

May 2024 recheck – initial 12 hours. CGM only, no insulin. Looking good!
Grumpy Buddy with his fancy FL3 sensor. He’s not amused about being on camera.

Relaxing with his sister, post-prodding.

Rough day at the office.
